Education??

Wake up. Get ready. Reach college by 7a.m. Leave at 7.p.m. Eat. Sleep.

Sounds familiar?? Of course it would, to most of you, because where else would we have done our intermediate other than Narayana or Chaitanya!? Let me start from the very beginning. I was pretty apprehensive before joining Narayana because I heard that they build up too much pressure on students and I was expecting the experience to be bad but I was ready for it. But they totally proved me wrong! The experience was the worst! Imagine having to sit in a physics class for 3 hours without any break! Thank God Higgs Boson had not been discovered during my intermediate or they would have extended the class for another hour. All said and done, somehow I survived those two years and came through to the next stage. ENGINEERING.

I had watched the movie "Happy Days" in my junior college and was really excited about entering an engineering college, and was expecting the experience to be all colourful and enjoyable. Though it wasn't as great as shown in the movie, I had a pretty good time and I miss my College days badly. The texting in classes, giving proxy attendance, the bunking, the canteen visits during class hours, the jitters before exams, and most importantly the bond of friendship that develops in those four years. But I am not writing this to get into all that, I am writing this to explain about the system of education that exists. I have no idea how I landed up taking Electrical and Electronics Engineering as my major but I scraped off with a pretty good aggregate, but most of the times, I really had no idea about few subjects. During my 2nd year 2nd sem, I had this subject called Managerial Economics and Financial Analysis (MEFA), which I absolutely loved. I enjoyed that subject  because the science of economics appeals to me. In the same sem, I had another subject called Pulse and Digital Circuits (PDC), about which I had absolutely no idea.

Now here comes a scenario!! I was done with my external exams for the second semester.I did pretty well in the exams but was really apprehensive about passing in PDC as opposed to MEFA, in which I was expecting at least 75 if not 80 marks, which was the maximum. Imagine my shock when I secured 48 marks in PDC and FAILED in MEFA, with a pathetic score of 24 marks. I had filled in just 13 papers in PDC, with stuff that had no relevance to the questions asked whereas I had written 35 papers for MEFA with stuff that made total sense, and this is what I get!? This is not all. One of my friends helped his friend in a subject, and guess who passed and who failed? Your are right! The guy who helped his friend FAILED.

The other day I was reading an article in the paper about the myriad engineers graduating in AP every year but how they lack innovation and communication skills which makes them worthless. If you nip in the bud, how can you expect a flower to grow? Where is the space for creative ideas to flow in? Why would I want to put in efforts when I don't get what I deserve? This is the attitude that develops and becomes a hindrance to work harder in the future. Luckily I passed my Engineering with good results, but this system of education desperately needs help.
